How do I apply for SEAS?
You need to apply for SEAS from your VTAC Account. Applying for SEAS is only the first step. In addition to the application, some categories will require you to include an impact statement and statement of support from a responsible person who can verify your claim.
See a demonstration
You can view a demonstration before you start your real SEAS application. The demo works just like the real thing, but you won't be able to save or submit anything you type. See SEAS application demo.
1. Log in to your VTAC account
To access the SEAS application, you must log in to your VTAC account using your VTAC ID and PIN.
2. Make sure you've lodged a course application
SEAS becomes available once you lodge a course application.
3. Open the SEAS application
To open the application, select 'Special consideration (SEAS) application' in your VTAC account and then click on the SEAS application link at the bottom of the page.
4. Fill in the SEAS application
There are four categories that make up SEAS. You only need to fill out the sections that are relevant to your circumstances. You must fill out at least one category for your SEAS application to be valid.
Note that each section has strict character limits (letters, spaces and punctuation marks), not a word limit. Keep your responses brief and to the point to avoid going over the character limit.
Applying for Category 1: Personal information and location
Select Yes to be assessed for consideration (if you are eligible) for age, school, living location, gender, indigenous status, first in family to attend university, and/or non-English speaking background based on the information provided in the creation of your VTAC account and course application.
All applicants are advised to choose this category and let the system decide which (if any) criteria you are eligible to be considered for.
Applying for Category 2: Difficult circumstances
Use this section to explain how your education has been disadvantaged by difficult circumstances. You will be asked if the circumstances first presented in 2015/16 or 2014 or earlier.
Difficult circumstances are circumstances that have occurred outside of your control. You must be able to demonstrate how these circumstances have or did impact on your educational outcomes. Circumstances already associated with Categories 1 or 3 will not be considered.
You will be asked to provide an impact statement outlining the timeline, type of circumstance and most importantly the impact on your education.
You will also be required to obtain a statement of support from a responsible person. The statement of support must also outline the type of disadvantage, the timeline and most importantly provide feedback on the impact of the disadvantage on your education.
Applying for Category 3: Disadvantaged financial background
Use this section to provide details about your Centrelink benefits including Family Tax Benefits. You will be asked to provide your Centrelink Reference Number and if you give VTAC permission to access your Centrelink information electronically.
If you are not currently receiving any Centrelink benefits, you will be asked to describe your financial circumstances including why you are not receiving Centrelink benefits, your income, the number of dependants you support (if any) and how you have experienced financial hardship.
Applying for Category 4: Disability or medical condition
Use this section to describe your disability or medical condition (temporary or permanent). You will be asked to provide an impact statement outlining the timeline, type of condition and most importantly the impact on your education.
You will also be required to obtain a statement of support from your relevant medical practitioner. The statement of support must also outline the type of condition, the timeline and most importantly provide feedback on the impact on your education.
5. Submit your SEAS application
Click on Submit to complete your SEAS application. You will be sent an email acknowledging that you have submitted an application including a receipt showing the contents of your application. You can also access your receipt through your VTAC account.
6. Check what evidence is required
You will be advised if you are required to submit any further evidence to support your application. Further information about submitting your evidence is available here.
