Mid-year course applications are suitable for applicants who are looking to start or change their tertiary education for Semester 2, 2026.

When researching courses in CourseSearch, the courses will have codes that correspond to the course fee types determined by your citizenship/residency status. To better understand which course codes you can apply for, see Which course codes can I apply for?.
How to apply
Before you add course preferences, you need to create a VTAC account and complete your profile. This includes providing your personal details and education. You can then access the course preferences section in your account. You may need to complete some additional tasks or provide evidence. These will appear on your account dashboard. Current year 12 students can create an account and complete their profile but most students will have to wait until August to apply for courses.
When completing your VTAC account and profile, use the most relevant category to describe your education status. The table below can help you with your selection.
| Current Education Level | Current Education Status to select for VTAC Profile | Mid-year applications (Semester 2, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Year 12 student | I am currently studying/recently completed Year 12 | Not eligible for mid-year applications except those studying a Northern Hemisphere timetable |
| 2025 or earlier Year 12 student with post-secondary education | I have started or completed a degree, diploma or certificate | Eligible for mid-year applications |
| 2025 or earlier Year 12 student without any post-secondary education | I finished secondary school a year or more ago and have not studied since | Eligible for mid-year applications |
| Have not completed Year 12 or equivalent | I did not finish secondary school | Eligible for mid-year applications |
If you already have a VTAC account from 2025, you do not need to create a new one. You can access the system using your existing login details. Within your account, your profile information will populate based on our current records. Please review all of your account information, ensure all of your details are correct and update any information that may have changed, including education history. You will need to complete a new course application with preferences that reflect the mid-year courses that are available through VTAC.
